Safari Overview

Lake Mburo one of Uganda's smallest and closest national parks’ tranquil atmosphere and soothing views are a great relief with open savannah plains consisting mainly of acacia woodland mashes and open valleys. You surely get to miss the heavyweights such as elephant, however the great mix of wetland and woodland habitats makes this a wide range of mammals and birds you get to enjoy on your safari. The park is also filled with an abundance of impalas. The capital city- Kampala derives its name from this beautiful animal.

  • 1 - To Lake Mburo National Park

    Meet and greet our company representative who will assist you with anything you might need before the start of your safari. Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park, one of Uganda’s smallest national parks but not to be underestimated. En route, you stop at the equator crossing for photography, shopping or meals.

    Lake Mburo besides Kidepo is the only Ugandan national park which is home to zebra, impala and eland. The park is also filled with an abundance of other wildlife like bush and water bucks, warthogs, topi, Uganda kob, buffaloes among others. The park is also home of about 350 species of birds. A high concentration of hippos and crocodiles live in the lake.

  • 2 - Game drive/ Boat Cruise

    After breakfast you indulge in a morning game drive where you will have a chance of spotting animals like zebras, giraffes, duikers, impala, buffaloes, elands, topi, leopard (especially during a night game drive) hyenas, jackals, waterbucks, warthogs, bushbucks and oribi. Birds like the red-faced barbet (only seen in L. Mburo) white-winged warblers, black-billed barbet, crested francolin, brown parrot, red necked spur, emerald-spotted wood dove, temminck’s courser, and great snipe may also be spotted during the game drive and some during the boat ride.

    An afternoon boat cruise on Lake Mburo graces you with the chance of spotting the rare shoebill- if you are lucky enough and other bird species as well as other animals such as the hippos and crocodiles.

    Optional activities: Horse riding, Walking Safari and Mountain Bike Safari, Night Game Drive

    Night Game Drive- A night game drive is a whole different experience from a day game drive as most wildlife comes out during this time due to the temperatures that have gone low. This is considered the best time to search for the elusive animals such as the leopard. With the use of a powerful spotlight and experienced ranger, you are able to spot the smallest of animals such as chameleon to other nocturnal animals like the hippos that come to the ground to feed. Your guide shares expert knowledge on the animals seen and their behavior.

  • 3 - Nature Walk/ Departure

    Exploring the beautiful scenes in Lake Mburo can be done either on foot, bike or horse ride safari. In the morning with the help of an experienced game ranger you indulge in a nature walk where footprints and animal droppings can be identified and your ranger guide will be able to tell you which animal has left it and how long ago. Approaching wildlife at a such a close range is a safari highlight always to remember.
