Lake Mburo National Park

Lake Mburo national park is located in Kiruhura district in Western Region of Uganda. It's 37 km from Mbarara town and 240 km from Kampala capital city.

It's one of Uganda's smallest Savannah parks that's 260 square kilometers.It was originally gazetted as a hunting area in 1933, upgraded to a game reserve in 1963 and later upgraded to a national park in 1983.

It was an intended decision of Obote's government to weaken the Banyankole who had started invading the area for cattle grazing and those who were against his government.

Lake Mburo is an extension of Tanzanian plains that harbors a variety of unique species like Zebras, Elands, Impalas, Hippos, leopards, Uganda kobs, African buffaloes, Jackals, Warthogs, the rare sitatunga antelope among others. 

It harbors over 300 bird species that include Coqui Francolin, African fin-foot, Papyrus Gonolek, bush shrikes among others.
